Working culture in Germany
Starting a new job abroad is one of the biggest expat challenges. When it comes to Germany, many may expect certain stereotypes: arrogant, bureaucratic and extremely punctual. In fact punctuality is essential, it is better to be five to ten minutes early than to keep your contacts waiting. A fixed start and end time is part of the German working and meeting culture.
Furthermore please keep in mind that you meet the dress code in German offices. In many businesses, especially in finance or insurance industry, the dress code is rather conservative. Whereas casual or trendy clothing is perfectly acceptable in many Start-ups, IT companies or advertising agencies. Just have a look at what everybody else is wearing, and choose your own clothes accordingly.
